Can I have an Amen

18.06.2015 14:59

Dr. S. O'Connor

I have been fighting this "Paper Tiger" for years! You have beautifully exposed this fraud! Thank you...

16.06.2015 12:59

Rosa

WOW all in one breath. I agree 100%. I am not a Nurse but I have seen and worked around it. It is sad and so unfair.

15.06.2015 15:18

lisa

What is crazy, is when your hospital is trying to look lean on paper to be mergered with a large organization

15.06.2015 15:15

Lisa

Why after getting Magnet Recognition x 2, why is administration cutting staff, giving higher patient ratios and still expecting to meet all theses unrealistic expect ions. Nursing moral doesn't matter

15.06.2015 01:59

Rhonda

This blog is dead on track. As a nurse for 27 years, I have seen it and lived it.

11.06.2015 22:04

Jennifer

Interesting blog. I am curious about your background, experience and degree in nursing.

09.06.2015 04:12

Sue

This really hit the nail on the head. Should be sent to the media.

16.06.2015 13:01

Ross

Yes Yes Yes. It Should

05.06.2015 17:20

Leslie

I was a patient at a magnet hospital, Hackensack, and the care was the worst ever, sorry people but health care is just a numbers game now, not nursing.

05.06.2015 15:57

Karen Zorn

Baloney! Much of what.you write is the moaning of someone who.doesnt want to improve the system. You throw.Obamacare in to add to the anger and then nothing you mention is caused by it.

02.06.2015 04:00

Pam Bianchi

How true it is!!!

01.06.2015 02:08

Angie Woodall

The magnet status has forced out excellent nurses many years of experience down the tub all for a 5 star status how sad 😜

31.05.2015 03:05

Linda

Beautifully written and all too true!

29.05.2015 16:48

Tracie Wrinn

You have taken all of the thoughts in my head and put them beautifully on paper.

27.05.2015 07:58

Cyndy

Useless JCOH et.al. mandates have taken away hand holding & providing comfort. MCR doesn't pay for emotional support.

27.05.2015 07:39

Lynn

i just wanted to take care of patients, not to have my career dictated by JCAHO or administration, I am ready to leave bedside nursing, very sad!

26.05.2015 04:36

jo bell

I retired because bedside care became secondary to the computer! Audits on your documentation and care plans which never helped any patient was taking nursing care time away from the patient .

24.05.2015 23:56

joan Boyle

This trend is one of the main reasons I retired at 65. Much less time spent at the bedside and much more time on the computer or doing mandatory hourly rounds .Much less job satisfaction

24.05.2015 17:52

Barb BSN RN CAPA

I think the certification process and exam is a money maker for these "nursing agencies" who have cashed in on the magnet venture. Magnet does necessarily mean better nursing care!!!

24.05.2015 00:56

Thelma

This is the reason why the older nurses are opting for early retirement .... Nursing has become too stressful because of all the new "rules and regulations " and surveys ... no more plain bedside care

23.05.2015 23:14

Sherika

Nobody cares anymore, it's all about the MoNEY!!!
Greed, selfishness, power!

23.05.2015 20:17

Sue Younkin RN

It is exactly related to the sentiments expressed in this article that I wasn't very sad to have to take early retirement, due to breast cancer, though I miss my patients dreadfully at times!!

23.05.2015 18:56

Georgia junior

What a mess the nursing profession has become the sad part the patient is short changed the nurses hands are tied she can't deliver the care he or she was trained for the pencil pushers win every time

23.05.2015 15:54

Amy Whithy

I get the whole Magnet thing and what nursing has become.
But now, explain to me how Obama care contributes to that ???

23.05.2015 18:22

Melanie Colson RN, CEN

One of the main parts of Obama care is the reimbursement of monies based on patient satisfaction scores. Hospitals are trying to receive the highest pat sat scores so they get the highest return.

23.05.2015 02:01

Theresa Krause

I am a retired RN. I was no longer nursing when "magnet" designation began. In my humble opinion the best caregivers came out of Diploma programs. What has happened to my beloved profession?

22.05.2015 21:23

Debbie Sewell

Nursing of the past is the Nursing we need to embrace. Taking the time to hold a hand, cry with a family that just lost their father unexpectantly, and the list goes on and on....

22.05.2015 20:57

Stacey a. Davis

A seasoned nurse without a degree or certification is looked upon as worthless because no fancy letters but when the shut hits the fan who do they call for MAKE SENSE can't precept but can be Yur mom

22.05.2015 15:58

zina

Wow. Great article. Much of it is so true. It's a shame we nurses can't just do what we do best and that is take care of our patients the best way we can. Nursing is a special calling for select few.

22.05.2015 15:58

Tammy B

Oh, so true! Nursing is not about caring for the patient but how to get a much desired "always" or "very good " on the patient survey.

22.05.2015 08:20

cindy

Regarding magnet status, totally agree. When it's time to renew magnet status, hospital must make goals, which is just crap for RNs to do. Irony: I'll not work @ a mag hosp

22.05.2015 08:13

Karen Lee

Shit, not only no, hell
no!

22.05.2015 08:09

Karen Lee

This tells basically why I decided to get out while I could st age 60. I retired after 38 years as a registered nurse and I haven't looked back.Do I miss my patients? You bet I do! Do I miss the bul

22.05.2015 05:03

Gary F.

This is why I will never be a nurse. Not because I couldn't rock it. It is because I have no desire to be treated way below what I deserve or give sub par care to someone who deserves the best.

22.05.2015 03:51

Fran

I am delighted that I got to be a nurse that actually took care of the patient for the first 35yrs of my career. The last 10 were more devoted to meetings and lots of paper work and now computers.

22.05.2015 03:29

CherylAnn RN BS,. Sorry no BSN so therefore "worth

Amen. Magnet disrespects nurses with years of experience whom have stood the test of time. It makes institutions top heavy and, because it is tied to reimbursement, shows their greed.

22.05.2015 03:37

CherylAnn RN BS no BSN therefore worthless."

The end of my statement was cut off. It was to say: Sorry no BSN so therefore "worthless." To be clear, do I think I am worthless? Absolutely NOT, but try to tell a magnet hospital that.

22.05.2015 02:52

TinaTrimble

this is so true and so sad. I too would love to send it to administration but they are too far gone

22.05.2015 02:31

A. McAllister

I wish I could secretly email this to my manager and CNO...but they've taken too much of the kool-aid it probably wouldn't get through.

22.05.2015 02:13

A. McAllister

AMEN! Finally! I could have written this myself. So sad. I used to love my profession but the love and the drive is all gone. Tragic, really.

21.05.2015 23:30

Julie

This is finally some thinking about nursing that is on the right track. These committees and magnet like titles get usurped by the sales people, the politicians, the power seekers, and the money men.

21.05.2015 23:16

CDoss

So, don't work at a Magnet hospital. Some of these 'facts' are complete news to me. I liked training 'baby nurses,' to create hopefully someone I could rely on.

21.05.2015 21:57

jewel

This is telling it like it is! In the beginning it seemed Magnet had some good ideas. In reality they are not working. Its not about being a nurse but rather how many degrees you can get.

27.05.2015 18:42

KatCobra RN

Consider yourself extremely fortunate CDoss, many problems I face and I don't work for a Magnet hosp., but we want to be one, one day. Healthcare is a business nothing more.

27.05.2015 16:57

Karen

this comment is in reply to CDoss.

27.05.2015 16:54

Karen

Your comment, "so don't work at a magnet hospital" is a bit myopic. 35 yrs in a place, vested in a pension, there's a bigger picture to look at when nearing retirement.

21.05.2015 21:39

Kate

This article is RIGHT ON. I work in a magnet hospital. I pride myself into believing it is a calling and give good care. I am a Diploma nurse, BSN,CCRN AND CNRN but long before magnet was vogue .

21.05.2015 21:07

lynn

Bravo finally someone put it into words
Lynn R N 35 yr employee

21.05.2015 19:30

pat

Sounds parallel to what is going on in the teaching profession. Could have written this about being a teacher in the schools.

21.05.2015 18:25

peg

Spot on article. It's as if you are reading every seasoned nurses mind. Nursing today is like the Emperor's clothes. We are wary of speaking the truth. You did it beautifully.

21.05.2015 16:09

Martha

Obama Care means more people coming to ER'S for small things and GVT not reimbursing those hours all of the extra new burden obama care patients are causing

21.05.2015 14:31

Karen RNC

So true

21.05.2015 11:06

Susan. RN-BC

Unsure what "Obamacare" has to do with this never-ending conundrum!!??

21.05.2015 06:11

Barbara

You forgot to mention the numerous hours it takes to document the care we have so little time to do..

21.05.2015 13:41

Debbie

so very true! Some how you are suppose to clock out on time no matter what.

21.05.2015 05:48

Michelle

Best description of the disease called Magnet that I have heard yet!! Let real nurses who care do what we do best, give care and save lives! The rest is just window dressing for administration anyway

21.05.2015 13:39

Debbie

so true!
