Something else Obama is getting blamed for.Must be Fox or RepubliCons writing again. Remember 5,000,000 more people got covered under the ACA..

Susan

I agree whole heartedly. I have a diploma and Assoc. degree worked at the same hosp for 19 yrs...left to seek FT job..tried to come back perdiem at the same hosp, the recruiter said NO BSN NO JOB!!

Amen to the writer of this article this should be printed in every paper in the United States Everyone should read this article.

16.05.2015 21:53

Michele

Yes it should!

16.05.2015 20:33

Karyn S.

well said.....

16.05.2015 18:55

Nancy Hogston

Precisely. Nursing and nurses have always been on "the back burner" compared to physicians, etc. Bedside nursing should be a focus rather than something we have to make time for.

16.05.2015 18:02

jb

I agree with this . Just one thing Press Ganey is just the vendor they many hospitals use to administer the HCAHPS survey. That's the survey for reimbursement not Press Ganey.

how can I help'nurses seem to be u respected by hospital boards. So sad this is happening.
How do you know if a hospital is a magnet,in a magnet hospital.

16.05.2015 18:01

Nicole Ginsberg

I am just as proud of my profession as I was when I started twenty years ago. Policies and ideas come and go. Take the time to train new nurses with compassion and care and they will pass it on

16.05.2015 16:11

Val

This is unfortunately so true. What don't they get about sick people needing thoughtful and tailored care they are not a widget in their money machine

16.05.2015 16:09

Monica Hummingbird

I agree ... Where Do we start.

16.05.2015 16:01

Lin

One of the requirements for Magnet is that 51% of the Board of Trustees have to be nurses. I have never seen that happen. ANCC wants Nurses to be seen as professionals but treats them as servants .

16.05.2015 15:41

Lesa Miller

Amen! This article describes what I have been trying to explain for years. They have taken the "fun" out of nursing. I actually liked being a bedside nurse, not a mini- administrator!

16.05.2015 15:38

Arleen

I totally agree with this article. The art of Nursing is dying fast! The technical, mechanical robot nurse is in high demand. No empathy required. I love my job and I love what I do but the joy is getting harder to find/share with my patients. I hope we f

16.05.2015 15:02

Mike Jones

The answer to all of this Magnet nonsense is for nurses across the USA to unionize--plain and simple. It is our field and we need to take it back.

16.05.2015 16:02

Lin

I absolutely agree with you. Where do we start?

16.05.2015 14:15

Ingrid Mielke

Amen! I'm sorry to say, because I love what I do, but I'm just around the corner from retirement and I'm ready! And then they complain about the overtime when you can't get it all done!

16.05.2015 13:51

Kathleen mertz

With welfare the way it is, it's next to impossible to please patients of this caliber. The high demand from employer is getting over welling. The love for the job is getting to be a stretch.

16.05.2015 13:21

Susan Frishkorn

Have very little faith in Press Gainey 's ability to really capture a solid survey response for which validity can be the "real picture" - seems like we are paying them big bucks to do very little!!!

16.05.2015 13:06

Carol

Amen

16.05.2015 12:19

August Taylor

I would rather know good patient is care and goo bedside manners are still in affect.if staff isn't happy it takes away from their passion/ or calling which makes better health care and healing proces

16.05.2015 11:28

K. Anomaly

Happy employees will create patient satisfaction.

16.05.2015 10:50

Sandra Dodson

Totally agree. I think we are educating nurses away from the bedside. We're so worried about creating great patient experiences and keeping families happy that we don't have time to take care of the patient.

16.05.2015 09:51

Angela Revel

I believe patients would also rather have their experience at a hospital where the staff is happier at their place of employment. Totally agree with the views of this author!!

16.05.2015 06:11

Chris James

I have been a nurse 35+ years, but sadly retired early, because I could no longer work in an environment you described. My fear is when I will be a patient at the mercy of our misdirected profession.

16.05.2015 05:38

Mary

Amen. I have tried my best to talk my daughter out of following me into the nursing profession.

16.05.2015 05:37

Martha

Article hits the nail on the head-as a 40yr nurse, I am glad to be out of the hospital setting. We took good care of pts-now they just make it "look good" in the computer.

16.05.2015 04:22

CJ Manners

I said from the beginning that Magnet Status (I refer to it as Maggot Status) was a joke. Jumping through hoops and paying lots of money for a certificate.

16.05.2015 04:21

chris

Amen and Hallelujah

16.05.2015 04:12

anne myers

Amen!!!! From a 40 yr hospital nurse.

16.05.2015 03:44

Sandra Y. Dixon, RN

Great article. I'm one of the old nurses who gave excellent bedside nursing and knew my patients instead of sitting in meetings .LPNs worked with me. Pt care was paramount!

16.05.2015 02:43

Jay

Hiring new nurses with masters in the management positions that makes it horrible because how can they function to lead in a role that they aren't expert at?

16.05.2015 02:41

jay

I agree, can you imagine 50 years ago, a 12 hour shift is still 12 hour shift at this generation but I can't count how many more responsibilities, committees have been added & expected to do them all?

16.05.2015 01:55

cathe813@hotmail.com

I have seen LPN's go and get their BSN without ever practicing as a RN and then go into higher more demanding roles that they just are not qualified to perform. Experience should count.

16.05.2015 01:11

Tracie

And then there r hours of charting with out going into overtime and handling all the families needs, wants and desires!! Whew 😒

16.05.2015 00:22

Drowning in Audits

I am so glad to hear I am not the Only one who thinks the "Magnet" designation is Bogus! I have been a manager for 24 years, but I can't "Be" the manager anymore because I don't have a Masters degree!

15.05.2015 23:44

Theresa Ann Engelhardt RN BSN BA

So much of this is right on point. It's up to us to change it. Get active with legislature & carve out our roles. We need to stand together to protect the art of nursing as we balance the business.

15.05.2015 23:35

Alvarez

Amen! Nursing is no longer what it was but a series of numbers crunched into time frames. Overworked unappreciated by administration and pushed to the brink..

15.05.2015 22:40

m

Great article! There is SO MUCH TO SAY! Hospital nursing is not the same. Working at surgicenter and love it! Don't miss hospital administrators!

15.05.2015 22:17

Anniss Green

This article is right on point. I recently received my BSN in nursing but have been a nurse for twenty years prior with my associates. I am still asking myself how this degree make me Knowledgeable?

15.05.2015 21:50

Luther Stepp

This is soooo true. The public is made to believe untruths about nursing and the care they will recieve.

15.05.2015 21:06

Maria hemmings

Error: press ganey is not used. Government formed a NEW agency, something like HCAPS, to assess how much a hospital gets reimbursed by medicate

15.05.2015 19:26

Char

This is so True!
EXhausted retired RN

15.05.2015 19:03

Kat jones

Magnet was always elitist. The best nurses are RNs that went BACK TO SCHOOL and got advanced degrees without being $40,000 in debt for their BSN as their initial degree.

15.05.2015 18:48

sue

Amen!

15.05.2015 18:26

Joyce shields

Nurses go through different stages in their careers, and keeping balance with family can preclude other committee work, etc. at certain times. It does not mean they are less qualified as a good nurse.

15.05.2015 18:11

susan hewitt

This is so true and why so many nurses are leaving the profession and or the bedside to move into administration or anything away from the bedside due to their frustration.

15.05.2015 16:59

Patricia Dalenberg

The only change that will happen when it's too late, oops no nurses.

15.05.2015 16:37

Jill P. Witmer

This is exactly why I retired and got out of nursing completely

15.05.2015 15:39

mym

I am confused about the slam blame on the Affordable Care Act which gives the non-rich access to healthcare. Control costs but not by shortchangeing RNs.

16.05.2015 16:54

Helen

I thought the same thing. ACA didn't cause the beaurocratic nightmares of magnet hospitals so why lump them together?

15.05.2015 14:35

Rthel

This is so true. Hospitals and Directors are becoming more and more wrapped up in numbers and not what is actually going on in our ER's or on the floors. A title does not make a great Hospital!

15.05.2015 13:53

Karen Lowman

Excellent Article! Very accurate. Glad I'm an ASC nurse. Proud to be able to still be a real nurse after 40 years in the profession.
